*edit, August 4, 2014 – I wasn’t going to bother, because my meaning still comes through, but the garbled first part of my online response to the linked-to article is bugging me. I am going to clean it up. I’ll leave the original, but immediately following the quoted online response, I’ll give you a fixed version of the first paragraph – just so you know that I’m not that bad with English.
An excerpt from the above linked-to article by Gianluca Mezzofiore follows:
An Israeli academic has claimed that raping wives and mothers of Palestinian Hamas militants is the only thing that could deter further terrorist attacks.
The remarks by renowned Middle East scholar Mordechai Kedar of Bar-Ilan University were made three weeks ago after the grim discovery of the bodies of the three kidnapped Israeli teenagers, but the recording was published online (in Hebrew) on Monday.
“The only thing that could deter a suicide bomber is knowing that if caught, his sister or his mother would be raped,” said Kedar on Israel Radio Bet…
Kedar served for 25 years in the military intelligence, where he specialised in Islamic groups. He is currently a researcher at the right-wing Begin-Sadat Centre for Strategic Studies of Bar Ilan but previously worked for a shadowy organisation, the Israel Academia Monitor, which fights left-leaning academic professors.
My online response to the above linked-to article follows:
The corporatocracy is out to rehabilitate Nazism, which is a premier ideology of imperialists. When you steal others’ countries, which requires you to terrorize, rape, dehumanize and kill other people, with varying degrees of ease, you want to feel motivated. The Nazis had that down and their symbols were so cool. Those symbols and similar terrifying symbols, like the one seen on shirts in Nazi Israel that read ‘Good Night Left Side,” as did rightwing thugs in Europe recently, are intended to terrify peaceful protesters and silence other (neighbors, fellow citizens – all betrayed) who might have thoughts about protesting what is in fact imperialism for gain for the benefit not of the dying planet or the many millions who aren’t rich or born to the rich, but those who are disdained for their choice to care about a meaningful law and order. There’s that most cherished rightwing concept of ‘choice’ in action! Choose right or else! (http://bit.ly/1nYnfZz)
It tracks. Leaders with a fascist or Nazi past (almost in Indonesia, done in Honduras, Haiti, India) who win election (or much support even when they lose, as in Indonesia) are only mirroring their indoctrinated population. All so that the capitalist class can continue to do bloody business as usual. (Capitalist expansion, as Todd Gordon explains in “Imperialist Canada,” has a geographical component to it. First Nations in Canada are the first victims of recent, extra aggressive capitalist expansion of the oil industry.)
Talk about idiocracy! Sane people, if they care enough to notice, won’t want children in this dark world. The rest are rutting like rabbits. They do believe (perhaps not fully), like Smith in The Matrix, that ‘more’ means ‘winner’ and ‘right’ and ‘righteous’. Individuals, who have no intention of showing humility and admitting that all of this godless behavior is, well, godless, will instead get fired up by the moral support they draw from increasing numbers of neighbors who also think that Nazism is cool.
I call it hell.
fixed version of the first paragraph of the above quote of my online response:
The corporatocracy is out to rehabilitate Nazism, which is a premier ideology of imperialists. When you steal others’ countries, which requires you to terrorize, rape, dehumanize and kill other people, with varying degrees of ease, you want to feel motivated. The Nazis had that down and their symbols were so cool. Those symbols and similar terrifying symbols, like the one seen on shirts wore by rightwing thugs in Nazi Israel, which were also wore on clothing of rightwing thugs attacking peaceful protesters in Greece and Ukraine and that read “Good Night Left Side,” are intended to terrify peaceful protesters and silence others (neighbors, fellow citizens – all betrayed) who might have thoughts about protesting what is in fact an incredibly evil, vile attack on defenseless people, fuelled by racism. And the Gazan atrocity is also an example of imperialism, which is aggression by a state, not in self-defense, but for gain. And the gain here isn’t for the Israelis who aren’t rich or born to the rich. The thugs are attacking those who are disdained by the 1% within Israeli society who believe, conveniently, in neoliberal capitalism and inequality and exploitation. The thugs, who want to side with the perceived winner, namely the powerful 1%, will imitate – as a way to signal to the 1% their acceptance of it’s programs so as to gain it’s approval – that 1% in it’s disdain of others for their choice to care about a meaningful law and order. There’s that most cherished rightwing concept of ‘choice’ in action! Choose right or else! (http://bit.ly/1nYnfZz)
I read “By Way Of Deception,” by Claire Hoy and Victor Ostrovsky, when it was published in 1990. Reading about the Israeli professor who is okay with rape as a weapon against Israel’s (unnecessary) enemy, the Palestinian people who Israel imprisons and tortures and about the brave Israeli soldiers who are speaking out about the darkness gripping their country reminded me of the report in this book about the culture of the Mossad, which I guess reflects (certainly now) the wider culture of Israeli society.
“We were exhausted. We still had reports to do for Kauly… Then Yosy said there was a woman down the street he’d promised to visit…
“”Don’t you love your wife?”
“”At least twice a week,” he said…
“Many people, when they know you work for the Mossad, are impressed. It shows you have a lot of power. These guys were doing their thing by using their Mossad connection to impress women. That was dangerous. That was breaking all the rules. But that was their game. They were always boasting about their conquests…
“Everyone in the building knew about it. By being straight, I missed out on a lot of contacts. There was a bond developed between men who screwed around. What disappointed me was that I’d thought I was entering Isael’s Olympus, but actually found myself in Sodom and Gomorrah. It carried through the entire work. Virtually everyone was tied to everyone else through sex. It was a whole system of favors…” -pages 111 & 112
And I see from flipping through the pages of my book that I marked a page (81) that included an interesting mention of the way the entire country was dangerously sliding to the right! What’s interesting about that tidbit is that Claire Hoy is rightwing!
