“Assaults on Journalists in West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem” by Vanessa Beeley

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

=== =
The Journalist Support Committee condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ attacks on Palestinian journalists who were carrying out their professional duty in covering rallies and protests in the West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem, in rejection to the US decision in appointing Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation on Thursday, 7 December 2017.

The committee confirmed that the Israeli occupation forces attacked the journalists who were covering demonstrations in the area of Beit El, Ramallah, among the attacked journalists was the crew of Al-Manar TV and BBC journalist Iman Oraykat who was carrying out a live coverage of the marches when she suffered from suffocation and found it difficult to complete coverage due to the density of the gas bombs launched by the Israeli forces.

In addition, the Israeli forces restricted and prevented journalists from coverage, as was the case with Palestine TV’s cameraman, Alaa Haddad in Hebron, and Al-Ghad TV channel which was prevented from completing its coverage and ordered to move to another place in an attempt to conceal the truth from the world.

“What to Expect From BBC Panorama and Guardian’s Whitewash of UK Gov’t Funding Terrorists in Syria” by Vanessa Beeley

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

21st Century Wire predicts (although we’d love to be wrong on any of these) what the BBC will NOT cover in tonight’s Panorama report on the “Jihadis You Pay For” scandal:

1. BBC Panorama will not mention the connections between the White Helmets and the Free Syrian Police as detailed in Vanessa Beeley’s investigative article (see report link below).

2. BBC Panorama will not mention the actual terrorist leadership of many of these UK FCO financed organisations which include the Free Syrian Police, the White Helmets and the Local Councils.

3. BBC Panorama will not include evidence of recent atrocities committed by members of the Free Syrian Police or their White Helmet associates, they will focus on evidence of such collusion with terrorism in 2014. This will ensure that they can always say the protagonists have since been “sacked” or have repented their terrorist ways and joined the ranks of the saviours of all mankind.

4. BBC Panorama will not mention the rebranding of these many organisations that are working hand in hand with terrorism in Syria, in order to muddy the waters of UK FCO funding of terrorism & the dirty war against Syria that has been waged for 7 years.

5. BBC Panorama will not mention the £ 200m that has been used to finance the Syrian “opposition” via the Conflict Stability and Security Fund.

6. BBC Panorama will not mention the lack of freedom in the UK which means Freedom of Information requests in relation to the UK FCO funding of terrorism in Syria remain unanswered. Nor will the BBC mention that the UK Government is not being held accountable for its spending on such organisations.

In light of the BBC, The Times and The Guardian whitewash of this story, we are now calling for a PUBLIC ENQUIRY into the use of UK Overseas Aid money in Syria.

“21WIRE Correctly Predicts UK Whitewash in BBC Panorama’s ‘Jihadists You Pay For’” by Vanessa Beeley

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

This week, 21WIRE correctly predicted the BBC’s Panorama inevitable whitewash in their program entitled, “Jihadists You Pay For.”

Going Underground host Afshin Rattansi and political analyst Lembit Olpik featured a story by 21st Century Wire this week, asking why amidst this breaking scandal of British public funds being diverted to terrorists in Syria – why the BBC Panorama and The Guardian whitewash of this story fails to even once mention the UK Foreign Office’s prized public relations set-piece, the White Helmets, as well as their links to terrorist organisations operating in Syria. Watch:

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s attempt to frame his political opponent Mikhail Saakashvili as a Kremlin agent is truly beyond parody.

However, the refusal of most prominent western media outlets to cover the breaking story from Kiev spells danger for “Mischa.”

As I write, on Tuesday afternoon, the dramatic events are completely absent from the front pages of America’s CNN, New York Times, and Washington Post. This stands in contrast to their often hysterical live coverage of far less dramatic protests by Russia’s small liberal opposition.

“The Plutocrats Are Pursuing Internet Censorship And They’re Barely Even Hiding It” by Caitlin Johnstone

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

A few days ago Facebook blocked my account for posting an article about false flag operations around the world, then two days later unblocked me with an apology after I made a big stink about it, saying it was an accident. Things went back to normal, then yesterday something changed and now the only people seeing my posts on that account are Facebook friends I was interacting with back in 2012 and haven’t spoken with in years. A number of users have told me that their post visibility has been really weird there the last few days.

Facebook has just announced that it is creating a resource which shows users which Russian propaganda outlets they have liked or followed, in response to consumers’ newly manufactured demand to be protected from ideas and information that might make them less patriotic. It is unclear how “Russian propaganda” will be defined and how inaccurate classification will be avoided.

“Trump’s Seven Forbidden Words” by Lawrence Davidson

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

….. … .. .
Sometime in the month of December 2017, somewhere in the bowels of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Washington, D.C., a high-level appointee of the Trump administration moved to take ideological control of the agency’s budget-writing process. This official presented a directive to the agency’s departments, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), listing seven words that were not to be used in budget preparation. If they were, they would be flagged and the document sent back for “correction.” The seven “forbidden” words are: “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

“The New York Times tries to make the Ahed Tamimi story go away” by James North

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

== == =
The New York Times ran a piece today on the very different ways that Israelis and Palestinians see the slapping incident involving 16-year-old Ahed Tamimi and an Israeli soldier. It is titled, “Acts of Resistance and Restraint Defy Easy Definition in the West Bank,” and is by David Halbfinger.

The article does everything it can to reduce the power of the case, in which a brave 16-year-old girl whose cousin was just shot stands for the inhumanity of the occupation. No, the whole point of the article is to make Israel supporters who may have heard about the incident shake their heads over Dual Narratives, and then move along…

2. State nowhere that Israelis are occupiers, and settlements (colonies) are illegal under international law…

4. Barely mention the fact that the illegal settlement/colony of Halamish has taken over the village of Nabi Saleh’s access to its spring, and make no effort to report on who is right. Instead treat the matter as On the One Hand/On the Other…

8. Leave till the 13th paragraph the information that hours before the encounter an Israeli soldier shot Ahed Tamimi’s cousin in the face. Leave out the cousin’s name, Mohammed, and the extent of his injuries. No, you have to go to al Jazeera for that…

9. Quote 6 Jewish Israelis, and only 4 Palestinians. But above all, don’t quote any member of the courageous Tamimi family, even though they were featured in Ben Ehrenreich’s landmark New York Times magazine piece on Nabi Saleh. And even though the slapping incident took place when the soldier had invaded their property.

“The People of Venezuela Successfully Fight Regime Change” by Roger Annis

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

(o
News reports in Western media about the municipal elections which took place in Venezuela on December 10, 2017 are hard to come by. No wonder: the governing United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) of President Nicolas Maduro scored a huge victory, winning 300 of 335 mayoral contests, according to Associated Press and a report in Venezuela Analysis translated from the Venezuelan journal Supuesto Negado.

Such an election outcome casts a searing and condemning light on the outlandish claims by Western media and governments—accompanied by sanctions that hurt the Venezuelan people and echoed by some in the Western left–that Venezuela is descending into hunger, chaos and dictatorship.

“Media Black-Out on Arab Journalists and Civilians Beheaded in Syria by Western-Backed Terrorists” by Eva Bartlett

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Who outside of Syria knows the names Yara Abbas, Maya Naser, Mohamed al-Saeed…? The corporate media has inundated us with news of the two American journalists allegedly beheaded, the first of whose execution video has been deemed faked. But what of the non-Western journalists and civilians beheaded and murdered by ISIS, al-Nusra, and associated terrorists in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, as well as the ruthless Zionists in Palestine?

Why didn’t the August 2012 execution (which some reported as a beheading) of TV presenter Mohamed al-Saeed, claimed by the Nusra gang, create the same outrage? Or the December 2013 kidnapping and point blank execution in Idlib by ISIS of Iraqi journalist Yasser al-Jumaili?

Why…

“The Biggest Secret” by James Risen

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

==o==-
I was sitting in the nearly empty restaurant of the Westin Hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, getting ready for a showdown with the federal government that I had been trying to avoid for more than seven years. The Obama administration was demanding that I reveal the confidential sources I had relied on for a chapter about a botched CIA operation in my 2006 book, “State of War.” I had also written about the CIA operation for the New York Times, but the paper’s editors had suppressed the story at the government’s request. It wasn’t the only time they had done so.

The above entry is not an endorsement of The Intercept, which is, as far as I am concerned, fully establishment.

“MSNBC Ignores Catastrophic US-Backed War in Yemen” by Ben Norton

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

===—
An analysis by FAIR has found that the leading liberal cable network did not run a single segment devoted specifically to Yemen in the second half of 2017.

And in these latter roughly six months of the year, MSNBC ran nearly 5,000 percent more segments that mentioned Russia than segments that mentioned Yemen.

Moreover, in all of 2017, MSNBC only aired one broadcast on the US-backed Saudi airstrikes that have killed thousands of Yemeni civilians. And it never mentioned the impoverished nation’s colossal cholera epidemic, which infected more than 1 million Yemenis in the largest outbreak in recorded history.

All of this is despite the fact that the US government has played a leading role in the 33-month war that has devastated Yemen…
—===

I have issues with FAIR’s funders and Alternet, with whom Ben Norton is affiliated. And Barbara Mckenzie has issues with Max Blumenthal and Ben Norton that I think are very worth considering. See her two part blog entry titled: “The Rebranding of the Anti-Syria Left”

FAIR’s funders, who you won’t find listed on FAIR’s website, include, according to Discover The Networks (a rightwing, ding dong bunch but put that aside for now): “FAIR has received financial support from a large number of sources, including the CarEth Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Park Foundation, the Rockefeller Family Fund, the Samuel Rubin Foundation, the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, the Stewart R. Mott Charitable Trust, the Barbra Streisand Foundation, the Tides Foundation, Working Assets, and others.”
