“‘Like a playbook for concealing the truth’: Pennsylvania grand jury details how Catholic Church allegedly covered up priest abuse” by Matt Pearce (Los Angeles Times)

The 1,356-page report from Pennsylvania begins with a plea: “We, the members of this grand jury, need you to hear this.” The Roman Catholic Church’s darkest secrets start tumbling out not long afterward.

In the Diocese of Allentown, one priest was confronted by his superiors and said: “Please help me. I sexually molested a boy.”

The diocese indeed helped him by letting the priest serve for several more years after the diocese concluded that “the experience will not necessarily be a horrendous trauma” for the boy, the report says.

In the Diocese of Erie, according to the report, one priest confessed to orally and anally raping at least 15 boys, who were as young as 7 years old. He was not removed from the priesthood until years later. The bishop ordered the parish to not say why, adding, “Nothing else need be noted.”

The landmark report into Catholic priest abuse released Tuesday in Pennsylvania — the culmination of a two-year grand jury investigation launched by the state’s attorney general — is thought to be the most extensive U.S. inquiry into how Catholic priests sexually abused children for at least half a century and were shielded by senior church officials trying to avoid public controversy.

Prominent Islamic Scholar Sheikh Suleiman Dweesh has died under torture in a Saudi Arabian jail, AlKhaleejonline.com reported on Tuesday. According to a twitter account which documents and reports news of political detainees in the Kingdom, the Sheikh was arrested on 22 April, 2016.

The fact that the full details of the treatment to which Sheikh Dweesh was exposed suggests that it was extremely inhumane. He was arrested less than a day after posting critical comments about Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman on social media.

“US Announces ‘Action Group’ to Coordinate Anti-Iran Efforts” by ? (Middle East Eye)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

====:-
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Thursday the establishment of the Iran Action Group, a task-force to coordinate all of President Donald Trump’s efforts against Iran.

The group will be led by Brian Hook, a State Department official who served as an adviser to John Bolton in 2006, when the Iran hawk was US ambassador to the United Nations.

“The Iran Action Group will be responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the State Department’s Iran-related activity, and will report directly to me,” Pompeo said at a news conference…

“The Iran Action Group echoes the lead-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, when the George W Bush administration launched the ‘Office of Special Plans’ out of the Pentagon to cherry-pick intelligence and make the case for a bloody war,” NIAC president Jamal Abdi said in a statement.

“Trump Regime Continues Supporting ISIS” by Stephen Lendman (Stephen Lendman)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

US support for ISIS is an open dirty secret – undiscussed by media scoundrels, pretending it’s not so.

Washington actively arms, funds, trains, and directs ISIS and other terrorists – backing the scourge they pretend to oppose.

Obama and Trump’s vow to degrade and destroy ISIS was and remains a bald-faced lie, using these and other cutthroat killers as proxy fighters in Syria and other countries where they’re deployed – their presence unjustifiably justifying illegal US occupation of northeast and southwest Syrian territory.

“Torture and Abuse in America’s Global Gulag” by Stephen Lendman (Stephen Lendman)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

====–
Societies are best judged by how they treat children, the elderly, the infirm, their most disadvantaged and prisoners.

America fails on all counts under Republicans and undemocratic Dems – a ruthless nation, a serial violator of core international and constitutional, and US statute law principles…

A 2008-released “Omar Broadway Film” documented abuse of inmates in one US prison, typical of most others, saying the following:

“As the prisoners stand motionless next to each other and cover themselves with plastic bags to protect themselves from chemical weapons, the riot squad bursts in, spraying torrents

of mace and freely swinging their batons.”

“The inmates offer no resistance. They later sport black eyes and broken jaws. One disappears for months after being dragged by his shackles down the stairs and across the floor, bleeding and screaming.”

“Disturbingly, these scenes are also often filmed by ‘Internal Affairs’ agents – employees of the prison in charge of procedural enforcement – who can be seen pointing their cameras toward the ceiling as the blows start raining down.”

“The other prisoners who are locked in their cells also choke on the gas. No preparations are made for their safety.”

“When this happens on Thanksgiving, the styrofoam-encased dinners sit undistributed all night in full view of the inmates. They are stacked behind two canisters of Mace.”

These practices are commonplace in America nationwide at federal, state and local facilities – state-sponsored brutality, torture by any standard, unreported by major media.

“‘Journey for Justice’ Caravan Launches Cross-Country Trek” by Dennis J Bernstein (Consortium News)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

The Trump Administration, with Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions as its willing lightning rod, is in the process of dismantling key aspects of the United States political asylum program. To that end, the administration has begun to zero in on what is known as Temporary Protected Status (TPS). TPS was established by Congress in the Immigration Act of 1990. It’s a humanitarian program that mandates that the U.S. should suspend deportations to countries that have been destabilized by war, civil conflict, or natural catastrophe.

According to the National TPS Alliance, if the Trump administration manages to crush the program, over 450,000 people would face possible deportation, putting them in harm’s way, facing extreme violence and possible death.

“A Gangster State” by Craig Murray (Craig Murray)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

(=
Max Weber defined a key attribute of a state as holding the monopoly on the legitimate exercise of violence within a given territory. For anybody other than the state to use substantive physical force against you or to imprison you is regarded as an extremely serious crime. The state itself may however constrain you, beat you, imprison you and even kill you. That link is on deaths in police custody. I might also quote the state murder of 12 year old British child Jojo Jones, deliberately executed by drone strike by the USA with prior approval from the British government.

That is but one example of the British state’s decreasing reticence over the use of extreme violence. The shameless promotion of Cressida Dick to head the Metropolitan Police as reward for orchestrating the cold-blooded murder of an innocent and unresisting Jean Charles de Menezes is another example. So is Savid Javid’s positive encouragement of the US to employ the death penalty against British men stripped of citizenship.

“Syria – Pentagon Plants High ISIS Numbers To Justify Occupation” by ? (Moon of Alabama)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

[o
The U.S. aim in Syria is still ‘regime change’. The Pentagon has made it clear that it wants to stay in the country even after the Islamic State vanished. A little propaganda trick is now used to create a justification for its continuing occupation.

The report by the UN Security Council’s Sanctions Monitoring Team on ISIS, in parts discussed here, includes a number that smells of bullshit and manipulation:

3. Some Member States estimate the total current ISIL membership in Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic to be between 20,000 and 30,000 individuals, roughly equally distributed between the two countries. Among these is still a significant component of the many thousands of active foreign terrorist fighters.

Footnote 2 gives as source:

2 Member State information.

But there must of course be a reason why “some Member States” would give the UN Monitor team such an absurdly high number.

The U.S. is justifying its occupation of north-east Syria by claiming to fight ISIS under the legal cover of two UN Security Council resolutions. Now, as ISIS in Syria has shrunk to a few dozens of fighters, that justification is wearing thin. It is immensely important for the Pentagon to present a high number, as ISIS is its only legal justification to stay in Syria. It is doubtful that Congress would agree to a prolonged occupation if ISIS vanished.

Mayouf Abu Bahr, a member of the Al Zinki terrorist group that beheaded 12-year-old Abdullah Issa

“Syrian Opposition Documentary about Fall of Aleppo Features Al Zinki Terrorist, Maayouf Abu Bahr” by Sarah Abed (Herald Tribune)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

o=—–
A new documentary called “Mystery of Falling” examines what took place in Aleppo in 2016, from the perspective of “pro-revolution” opposition members and leaders. What they mistakenly refer to as the fall of Aleppo was more accurately the dismantling of their western-funded fake “revolution”, and the liberation of innocent civilians that were held captive and besieged for five years by terrorist factions in Aleppo.

The Syrian Arab Army along with their allies; Hezbollah, Russia, and Iran coordinated a successful liberation operation and retook control of the area. The terrorist factions were sent to terrorist concentrated areas via green buses. Celebrations erupted in the streets and Christmas was openly celebrated for the first time in 5 years in 2016.
