“Police and courts enforce Trudeau’s law criminalizing Canada Post strike” by Roger Jordan (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

==== == =
The police and courts are working hand-in-glove with Canada Post to enforce the reactionary law Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government passed last week illegalizing job action by the Crown Corporation’s 50,000 letter carriers, mail sorters, delivery truck drivers and postal clerks.

Indeed, they have effectively extended the anti-strike law into a legal ban on any protest that impedes Canada Post’s operations…

Big business howled for the illegalization of postal workers’ five-week campaign of rotating strikes, not just because they wanted to cash in on the Christmas online shopping rush. They, along with the Liberal government and the entire political establishment, feared the postal workers’ struggle could trigger a much broader mobilization of working people.

The issues that prompted a near unanimous vote for strike action by postal workers in September—a vast expansion of “flexible,” part-time and precarious jobs, the slashing of pensions, decades of wage stagnation and a dramatic intensification of workloads due to technological change—are not merely problems for postal workers. The vast majority of workers in both the public and private sectors, in Canada and around the world, face like conditions…

The assault on postal workers mounted by the Liberal government, now joined by the courts and police, has been made possible chiefly due to the impotence and complicity of CUPW and its “allies.”

Adamantly opposed to making the postal workers’ struggle the spearhead of a political and industrial counter-offensive against the austerity policies of the ruling elite, CUPW has from the outset systematically worked to isolate and demobilize postal workers.

Despite being armed with an overwhelming strike mandate, CUPW President Mike Palecek refused to call a nationwide strike. Instead, he restricted postal workers to a campaign of regional rotating strikes, which he himself acknowledged were aimed at having as little impact on Canada Post’s business operations as possible.

“New York Times: Our crime was telling the truth” by Andre Damon (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

(o
On November 17, the Washington Post published an op-ed column by Alex Stamos, Facebook’s former head of security, arguing that the US media should not have reported the WikiLeaks revelations about Hillary Clinton’s corrupt relations with Wall Street and the theft of the Democratic primary in 2016.

Stamos writes that Facebook executives “weren’t the only ones” responsible for Russian “meddling … We must also remember that in the summer of 2016, every major media outlet rewarded the hackers of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) with thousands of collective stories drawn from the stolen emails of prominent Democrats. The sad truth is that blocking Russian propaganda would have required Facebook to ban stories from the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and cable news—not to mention this very paper.”

He concludes, these newspapers “have never adequately grappled with their culpability in empowering Russia’s election interference.”

Stamos is arguing, in other words, that by publishing true information about political corruption, the American press committed what amounts to treason. His claim is a frontal attack on the American political tradition of free speech going back to the Zenger case of 1734, which set the precedent that true statements cannot be a crime.

The Post’s decision to publish Stamos’s arguments is an expression of sympathy for this totalitarian argument.

Robert Mueller

“Gingrich: ‘Mueller Not Running an Investigation – It’s a Trump Destruction Project’” by ? (21st Century Wire)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

[=-
Former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich called out the ‘special counsel’ being run by ex-FBI director Robert Mueller, describing the two year-long Russia probe as nothing resembling an real investigation, but rather a “Trump destruction project.” Gingrich added, “Mueller has a Trump destruction project. He brought on a team, all of them dedicated to destroying Trump. They have done everything they could to destroy Trump.”

Gingrich’s comments echo what many critics are beginning to vocalize – which is that the Mueller investigation has been a politically-motivated fraud from day one. The former House Speaker also believes history will not be kind to either Mueller, or the establishment who hand picked him to run the probe:

“Historians some day will comment, that this was one of the most extraordinary efforts to undo the will of the American people by an established bureaucracy and its establishment friends – that we’ve seen in all of American history.”

“Tired of Losing in Court, Trump Administration Amplifies Attack on Science” by Abigail Dillen (EarthJustice)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

|-
Several years ago, researchers studying environmental causes of childhood autism found a link to chlorpyrifos, a pesticide widely used across the U.S. on staple crops like corn, wheat, and citrus.

That study and others that followed led the EPA to ban the use of chlorpyrifos for most indoor applications, but agricultural use continued, poisoning farmworkers and others. Thanks to a series of Earthjustice lawsuits, the EPA finally proposed banning this brain-damaging pesticide in 2015. But as soon as President Trump took office, the chemical industry lobbied successfully to derail the ban. We sued, invoking the wealth of scientific data showing there is no safe level of exposure to chlorpyrifos. And in August, we won a resounding court order requiring regulators to finalize the proposed ban…

The Trump administration and its allies are acutely aware of science’s role in pushing for effective government regulation — which is why they’ve instituted a sneak attack on science. Their effort to disregard or disqualify any scientific finding that threatens corporate bottom lines has been glaringly apparent in the chlorpyrifos fight as the EPA continues to drag its feet. More sweepingly, last year former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt kicked independent scientists off key advisory boards, and acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has initiated new actions to exclude consideration of sound science altogether.

“The NFL Still Only Cares About Violence Against Women When There’s Video” by David Zirin (The Nation)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

(((
Sometimes a news cycle in the sports world develops with such breakneck speed, it creates mental whiplash, with the tempo of the story itself causing its own swirl of distraction from the rot that lies beneath. Such is the case with the video that recently emerged of Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt pushing and kicking a 19-year-old woman outside a hotel last February…

The assault took place in February, but Kareem Hunt was released from the team immediately after the video went public on TMZ last Friday. The team quickly put out the word that the reason they had waited so long was that because after the incident, which led to a police report but no arrests, Hunt had lied to them about what took place and they didn’t see the truth until they witnessed the video. This was the word that they put out through all the usual NFL access merchants. As the NFL Network’s reliable Ian Rapaport put it, “Neither the NFL, nor the #Chiefs, had seen the video before it was published today. I’m told the league made several attempts to obtain it. The hotel said it was corporate policy to only turn it over to law enforcement. Cleveland PD would not provide it to the league.”

The idea that TMZ somehow has the ability to find videos that the NFL—with its army of former FBI agents and cops on the security payroll—cannot strains credulity. It seems possible that both the NFL offices and the Chiefs knew that there was a video and chose to hope that it would never see the light of day. As for its “investigation” last February, we know now that the league did not even interview Hunt or the woman he pushed and kicked.

“Never, Ever Forget The Guardian/Politico Psyop Against WikiLeaks” by Caitlin Johnstone (Rogue Journalist)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

=-=—
For the first few hours after any new “bombshell” Russiagate story comes out, my social media notifications always light up with poorly written posts by liberal establishment loyalists saying things like “HAHAHA @caitoz this proves you wrong now will you FINALLY stop denying Russian collusion???” Then, when people start actually analyzing that story and noting that it comes nowhere remotely close to proving that Donald Trump colluded with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election, those same people always forget to come back afterward and admit to me that they were wrong again.

This happens every single time, including this past Tuesday when the Guardian published a new “bombshell” report saying that former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort had had secret meetings with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. When experts all across the political spectrum began pointing out that the story contained no evidence for its nonsensical claims and was entirely anonymously sourced, nobody ever came back and said “Hey sorry for calling you a Russian propagandist, Caitlin; turns out that story wasn’t as fact-based as I’d thought!”…

f it wasn’t obvious to you last week that there is an unelected power establishment which needs above all else to control the public narrative about what’s going on in the world, it should certainly be obvious to you this week. The Guardian hit piece was so spectacularly desperate in its over-reaching to advance a narrative which has been used to manufacture support for longtime CIA/MI6 agendas like arresting Julian Assange, stopping WikiLeaks, censoring the internet and subverting Russia that it completely exposed itself as the establishment psyop firm that it is.

“A Vancouver Publication Accuses the CBC of “Lying” to Canadians About Venezuela” by (American Herald Tribune)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

[=-
With charming irresponsibility, prime minister Justin Trudeau not only assisted what many consider the wholly improper call to bring the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, before the International Criminal Court, he also is alleged to have (in September) misreported (at the UN) conditions in Venezuela.

The charge by the Vancouver publication The Fire This Time (Oct. 2018) of the CBC lying to Canadians involves Anna Maria Tremonti, The Current, and so-called ‘responsible’ reporting about Venezuela. The Fire This Time’s allegations may be timely because public impatience with false, twisted, ‘convenient’, padded news/ information delivery is growing…

The situation regarding Venezuela is complex … but, at base, very simple. The U.S., major creator of The Organization of American States (which Canada kept free from for years, but which now acts, inside, as a U.S. lackey), is often accused of wanting to control all of Central and South America.

That began with the so-called Monroe Doctrine set out in 1823 … providing one of the bedrock policies for the fundamental imperialist basis of U.S. global policy. The “Doctrine”, in effect, told European powers to stay out of Central and South America (the USA’s “back yard”). The area was to belong to the USA (to exploit, to ravish, to oppress).

The attempt to have the International Criminal Court move against Nicolas Maduro followed an Organization of American States complaint against Venezuela based upon a Report by three “experts” of which Canada’s Irwin Cotler was one. The USA does not belong to the very questionable International Criminal Court, largely because it fears actions may be taken against itself. But it “uses” the ICC through proxies (like Canada) when convenient. Donald Trump calls Venezuela a socialist regime acting with its Cuban supporters. No condemnation (for him) could be greater.
