“Billboards to End War Going Up and Not Going Up” by David Swanson (David Swanson)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

New billboards are going up around the United States and elsewhere opposing war. Some are not going up because the message is deemed unacceptable. Many more are being planned.

Meanwhile, this ad is not going up anywhere, because we have not found any company willing to post it for good cold American cash:

“Media Ignores the Plight of Kirill Vyshinsky: A Russian Journalist Imprisoned Without Trial in Ukraine” by Eva Bartlett (In Gaza and beyond)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

=== == =
A petition for Vyshinsky’s release reads:

On May 15, 2018, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) carried out a massive operation against journalists, having forcefully searched the Ukrainian-based RIA Novosti’s central office in Kiev, including its correspondents’ homes, and arrest of it’s editor-in-chief, Kirill Vyshinsky.

On July 11, the court in Kherson, Ukraine extended Kirill’s imprisonment by 60 days without bail, and is currently being held captive, as his health is rapidly deteriorating.

As of November 1, the Kherson city court has extended the arrest of Kirill until December 28, without a legitimate trial and without right to bail.”

The journalist, if finally tried, could face up to 15 years in prison, although he was fulfilling his role as a journalist. While in prison, his health has deteriorated to the point that his lawyer had to request urgent medical treatment, Sputnik reported.

Yet, aside from the rather bland entry on the Reporters Without Borders (RWB) website, expressing “worry” for Vyshinsky, only Russian media seem to be reporting on the prolonged and illegal detention of a journalist. Just imagine the selective outrage corporate media would express in chorus were the journalist imprisoned in Russia. The RWB entry did, at least, note:

“The authorities must either precisely explain how the alleged actions constituted high treason or release Kirill Vyshinsky without delay.”

“Israeli gov’t is trying to defund +972 Magazine, report says” by ? (+972)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

:–
srael asked the German government to pressure two left-leaning political foundations to stop funding +972 Magazine, according to a report in the German media Thursday. +972 was able to independently verify the report.

The total contributions from the two foundations, Heinrich Böll Stiftung and Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, comprise only 9 percent of +972’s overall 2018 budget as of September. In the past two years, 40 percent of our budget has come from the support of our readers.

Both foundations have pledged to continue supporting +972 despite the political pressure.

“Mainstream Media Assaults on Freedom of Speech. “The Truth” is No Longer “Important”” by Shane Quinn (Global Research)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

[=-
The New York Times unveiled a new slogan early in 2017 titled, “The truth is more important now than ever.” It has acquired a seemingly noble motto but a perhaps contentious one if we examine the Times’ recent history. Two international law specialists, Howard Friel and Richard Falk, published a book after the 2003 Invasion of Iraq called The Record of the Paper, which has scarcely been reviewed.

Friel and Falk focused on the Times due to the newspaper’s importance. The authors point out that in 70 Times editorials on Iraq – from September 11, 2001 to March 20, 2003 – the words “international law” and “UN Charter” were never mentioned. The “truth” did not seem terribly “important” as the Times stood idly by in the destruction of Iraq.

Such was the barrage of propaganda directed at the American public that 69% believed Saddam Hussein was “personally involved” in the September 11 attacks. That is a significant achievement in manipulation. The poll results must have been news to the Iraqi dictator himself, a forgotten one-time American ally.

Why Hussein would take it upon himself to orchestrate a surprise attack on the United States, of all nations, is anyone’s guess. Perhaps if he had a death wish but as later events proved he was not the suicidal type.

“Donorbox Shutters BDS Fundraising After Complaint by Israeli-Government Linked Group” by AP (Mint Press News)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

=====—
JERUSALEM (AP) — A U.S. software company said Friday it blocked the fundraising account of the Palestinian-led boycott movement against Israel following a complaint by a pro-Israel group that the campaign has links to militant organizations.

Donorbox, which makes fundraising management software, confirmed that the BDS campaign’s account was temporarily blocked while it investigates the allegations.

The BDS movement called the Israeli move “McCarthyite.”

The decision came in response to a complaint from Shurat HaDin, an Israeli advocacy group…

The BDS campaign advocates boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israeli businesses, universities and cultural institutions. Comparing itself to the anti-apartheid movement during apartheid-era South Africa, it says it is using nonviolent means to resist unjust policies toward Palestinians. The group has made significant gains in recent years, particularly among foreign artists and university students.

Israel says the movement masks its motives to delegitimize or destroy the Jewish state.

Israel’s allies have passed a series of anti-BDS laws in the U.S. The American Civil Liberties Union is currently challenging a Texas law requiring contractors to certify that they do not boycott Israel or Israeli-occupied territories, saying it violates the right to free speech.

“Organ theft, staged attacks: UN panel details White Helmets’ criminal activities, media yawns” by Eva Bartlett (In Gaza And Beyond)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

(–
Utter silence. That is the sound of Western corporate media days after a more than one-hour-long panel on the White Helmets at the United Nations on December 20.

Journalists were present, so the silence isn’t due to lack of access. And in any case it was live streamed on the UNTV channel, and remains available on Youtube for keen observers to watch.

More likely, the silence is due to the irrefutable documentation presented on the faux-rescue group’s involvement in criminal activities, which include organ theft, working with terrorists — including as snipers — staging fake rescues, thieving from civilians, and other non-rescuer behaviour.

On the panel was one of corporate media’s favourite targets to smear, British journalist Vanessa Beeley, who gave a fact-based lecture on her years of research into the founding, funding and nefarious activities of the White Helmets, research which includes numerous visits to White Helmets centers, countless testimonies from Syrian civilians, and even an interview with a White Helmets leader in Dara’a al-Balad, Syria.

Maxim Grigoriev, the director of the Foundation for the Study of Democracy (a member of the UN’s Global Counter-Terrorism Research Network) spoke at length, detailing some of the over 100 eyewitnesses his foundation has conducted interviews with.

From Invetig’Action:
The anti-Trump movement is not simply a progressive movement against a rightwing president, but also carries within it a rightwing current. Progressive minded people fight against Trump’s racist actions against Blacks, Latinos, Muslims, his crude sexism, his pro-corporate policies, his rejection of action on global warming, his massive tax cut to the 1%, his war threats against Syria, Korea, Iran, and Venezuela.

“Russiagate McCarthyism Led to Internet Censorship of the Anti-War and Social Justice Movement” by Stansfield Smith (Invetig’Action)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

===][=
The rightwing element of the anti-Trump movement, embodied in the “liberal” corporate media, the Democratic Party establishment, many Republican leaders, and the national security state, focuses on his character, on his alleged friendliness to Russia’s Putin, and alleged collusion with Putin to steal the 2016 election. They campaign to indict Trump for collusion, even for treason, or to remove him for mental unfitness…

This rightwing anti-Trump movement at present dominates the “Resistance,” and has little problem with Trump’s racist, pro-corporate, warmongering, anti-environment (actually anti-Planet Earth) policies. To the extent they do, much of it is a question of his crude style.

Two major “liberal” newspapers, pushing Trump-Putin Russiagate “collusion” are the New York Times and the Washington Post. The Times’ long article on September 20 The Plot to Subvert an Election: Unraveling the Russia Story So Far claimed “What we now know with certainty: The Russians carried out a landmark intervention.” Yet, like most such Russiagate tales, deep inside it says “no public evidence has emerged showing that [Trump’s] campaign conspired with Russia.” That is, the Russia US election interference story has as much validity as the Obama has no US birth certificate story…

This DNC-national security state, which invented this Russiagate story, now dominates the anti-Trump “Resistance.” Now we find progressive-minded people actually condemning Trump’s attacks on the secret police apparatus and defending the FBI, CIA, NSA, and DIA in their resistance to Trump. Anti-war people who had opposed the invasion of Iraq now support the wars on Libya and Syria, and are happy to support the anti-Russia witch-hunt…

Bernie Sanders is the most respected liberal-left pushing this Russian election interference witch-hunt…

Seth Ackerman at the Jacobin does understand the DNC will use Russiaphobia against the Democratic Party “left” (as does The Intercept and In These Times) yet other Jacobin articles swallow the Russiagate tale. The same holds true for KPFA, The Nation, In These Times, and Democracy Now…

McCarthy anti-communist hysteria had a devastating effect on the working class movement in the US. The witch-hunt allowed the ruling class to suppress protest, and build the growing surveillance apparatus and military-industrial complex that Eisenhower later hypocritically warned us about.

Unlike the 1950s McCarthyism, today’s is led by the Democratic Party, ostensibly against Trump, often with support of “leftists,” growing out of the prior anti-Russia crusade…

The Washington Post followed up later in November 2016 with an glowing article legitimizing PropOrNot, an anonymous McCarthyite outfit which claims without explanation that 200 media outlets are mouthpieces of Russian propaganda. Included are Consortium News, Counterpunch, Truthdig, Naked Capitalism, Zero Hedge, Truth-out, and WikiLeaks.

Alan MacLeod and Jane Regan wrote that PropOrNot

soberly informs its readers that [when] you see news sources critiquing the “mainstream media,” the EU, NATO, Obama, Clinton, Angela Merkel or other centrists are a telltale sign of Russian propaganda. It also claims that when news sources argue against foreign intervention and war with Russia, that’s evidence that you are reading Kremlin-penned fake news. PropOrNot claims it has identified over 200 popular websites that “routinely peddle… Russian propaganda.”

This WaPo article was the cue to push internet censorship.
