One of the worst flare ups in violence across the Israeli-Gaza borders continued to escalate on Sunday, as Israeli air forces pounded more than 300 sites in the Gaza Strip, while Hamas forces in Gaza fired hundreds of rockets into Israeli territory.

As of Sunday afternoon, reports from the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza indicated that 25 Palestinians, including a four-month and 14-month-old girl, two pregnant women, and a 12-year-old boy were killed in the strikes.

The ministry added that over 150 Palestinians, including several children, were injured during the Israeli airstrikes.

At least four Israelis have been killed by rocket fire from Gaza…

The Israeli army has published a series of infographics and statements on Twitter over the weekend, claiming to have hit over 320 “terror sites,” including tunnels, rocket launch sites, and weapon storage facilities…

Palestinian media reported that the killing of the man, identified as Ahmed al-Khodary, was Israel’s first targeted assassination of a high profile official in Gaza since 2014.

In regards to the killing of 37-year-old pregnant woman Falastine Abu Arar and her 14-month old niece Saba, the Israeli army denied its role in their death, instead blaming a misfiring of a Palestinian rocket.

One of the buildings destroyed by Israel was home to the Gaza bureau of the Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency.

“Plea Deal in Arson-Murder Case of Israeli Settlers Epitomizes Apartheid “Justice”” by Miko Peled (Mint Press News)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

||\|
REGIONAL COURT, LYDD, PALESTINE – A plea deal has been reached in the case of one of two Israeli settlers who were charged in the arson-murder of the Dawabsheh family in July 2015.

Saad Dawabsheh, 31, his wife Reham, 27, and their 18-month-old son Ali were killed in the attack when settlers set their home in the village of Duma on fire. Their older son, who was four-years-old at the time, was the sole survivor of the attack and sustained severe burns on over 60 percent of his body.

The main suspects were Amiram Ben-Uliel and Elisha Odes, two young men who are part of a violent gang that goes by the name of “The Hills Youth.” Their sole purpose is to instill terror in the civilian Palestinian population…

There was general condemnation expressed in Israel after the Duma arson-murder was revealed, as one might expect when an entire family is burned to death by Jewish terrorists and the one little boy who survived was severely burned. So much so that even Naftali Bennett — a war criminal himself, who prides himself at having killed innocent civilians — came out and described this crime as terrorism.

However, the hand-wringers seem to ignore that when Israeli pilots drop bombs on civilians in Gaza or other places, they too burn families with children. They cause entire buildings to collapse and bury people alive; they choke men, women and children with chemicals that emanate from the bombs. When this happens, however, barely a single voice of concern is heard.

“Gaza boy killed by explosive grenade fired at his face” by Maureen Clare Murphy (Electronic Intafada)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

::::====
A Palestinian boy killed by Israeli occupation forces during protests in March was fatally injured by an explosive grenade, an investigation by the human rights group Al-Haq has found.

Adham Nidal Amara, 17, was directly injured in his face, killing him, as he took part in the rallies marking the one-year anniversary of the Great March of Return protests east of Gaza City on 30 March.

Two other teens, Tamer Hisham Abu al-Khair, 19, and Bilal Mahmoud Shaban Najjar, 16, were shot and killed by Israeli forces while protesting in Gaza that day. A fourth person, Faris Yusif Faris Abu Hijris, 26, succumbed to wounds sustained during the protests two days later.

Unprecedented injury

The injuries to Amara’s face, destroying his lower jaw, had not been seen before, even during a year of protests in which Israeli forces had inflicted what doctors said were typical of war wounds.

More than 200 Palestinians, including 44 children, have been killed during the protests and thousands more injured. Some 1,400 Palestinians were shot by live ammunition during protests on 14 May 2018 alone, the deadliest single day of protests since their launch.

The “severity of the deep injury which completely disfigured [Amara’s] jaw” made it difficult for the pathologist who performed an autopsy on the boy to determine what caused it, according to Al-Haq.

“German parliament smears quest for Palestinian rights as anti-Semitic” by Riri Hylton (Electronic Intafada)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

[[[
In a symbolic move on Friday, the German parliament condemned the BDS – boycott, divest and sanctions – movement for Palestinian rights as anti-Semitic.

The Bundestag passed the motion “Resisting the BDS movement decisively – fighting anti-Semitism,” brought by Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, the center-left Social Democratic Party, the Greens and the liberal Free Democrats.

Inspired by the tactics of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, the BDS movement was founded by some 170 Palestinian civil society organizations in 2005 with the aim of pressuring Israel to respect Palestinian rights and international law…

The BDS movement is explicitly anti-racist and targets institutional support for Israel’s practices.

Yet Friday’s motion claims without any basis that “the pattern of argument and methods of the BDS movement are anti-Semitic.”

It compares calls not to buy Israeli goods to the Nazi slogan “Don’t buy from Jews.”

It asserts that anyone who “questions the right of the Jewish and democratic state of Israel to exist or Israel’s right to defend itself will meet with our resolute resistance.”

This means, in effect, that anyone who argues that Israeli Jews and Palestinians should have full and equal rights in a single democratic state – similar to post-apartheid South Africa – is deemed an anti-Semite…

More than 60 Jewish and Israeli academics critical of the move signed an open letter stating “we all reject the deceitful allegation that BDS as such is anti-Semitic.”

“The equation of BDS with anti-Semitism has been promoted by Israel’s most right-wing government in history,” the scholars add.

“Deal of the Century Adds “New” to the Four Thousand Year Old Name “Palestine”” by Miko Peled (Mint Press News)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

):-
JERUSALEM, PALESTINE — Nakba Day — the day when Palestinians commemorate the destruction of their country and the mass killing and forced eviction of their people — is coming up, and with each passing day, another disturbing story unfolds.

Perhaps the most disturbing story so far is the plan to present Palestine with a new name, “New Palestine.” This, according to a rumored leak, is what Donald Trump and Jared Kushner are going to present to an anticipating world as part of the so-called “Deal of the Century.”

Also according to the leak, aside from a demand for Palestinians to accept a new name as part of the “Deal of the Century” — forgoing the name “Palestine,” which has been used to describe their land since the Bronze Age — the Palestinian people will have to accept that their heritage and their history will be erased and their land will be taken away for good. In other words, what Palestinians are going to receive, according to the leak, is a new name but no country, and they will be expected to accept this or else they will be denied access to foreign aid, not only from the U.S. but other countries as well…

Over the past several years, a new phenomenon has risen, a joint memorial service where Israelis and Palestinians join together to commemorate their fallen loved ones. While the idea of such an event may seem appealing to some, the moral equivalency it tries to create between the victims of the violence and those who lost their lives while perpetuating the violence is troubling. However, in the political climate that now exists among Israelis, this is considered progressive. While this event was permitted to proceed, right-wing gangs came by to protest the initiative and lashed out with obscenities at the participants: “Sons of whores, may God take all of you stinking lefties! Death to Arabs!” and on and on.

“UN Secretary-General Echoes Worries Pacific ‘Nuclear Coffin’ is Leaking” by ? (Sputnik)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

|||—
Speaking to students in Fiji Thursday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the ongoing health problems people in the region suffer as a result of the nuclear testing of past decades and expressed concern that a “coffin” built to contain nuclear waste in the region could begin leaking, with disastrous consequences.

Responding to a question from a student at the University of the South Pacific, Guterres noted, “The Pacific was victimized in the past, as we all know,” referring to the nuclear explosions conducted by the United States and France over several decades at Pacific locations, including in the Marshall Islands, where the US forcibly evacuated and resettled entire populations to conduct some of its 67 nuclear weapons tests.

“The consequences of these have been quite dramatic, in relation to health, in relation to the poisoning of waters in some areas,” Guterres said.

The nuclear coffin is Runit Dome, a huge concrete structure built to store the 85,000 cubic meters of contaminated debris and soil generated by the dozens of US tests in the area…

The dome is cracking. As Sputnik reported last year, a 2013 report commissioned by the US Department of Energy revealed that radioactive materials were indeed seeping out of the dome into the surrounding soil. If rising seas caused by by climate change penetrate the dome, that local problem could become a global nuclear crisis, as ocean currents would distribute the waste around the world.

“There’s Far More Diversity in Venezuela’s ‘Muzzled’ Media Than in US Corporate Press” by Lucas Koerner and Ricardo Vaz (FAIR)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

====:-
The international corporate media have long displayed a peculiar creativity with the facts in their Venezuela reporting, to the point that coverage of the nation’s crisis has become perhaps the world’s most lucrative fictional genre. Ciara Nugent’s recent piece for Time (4/16/19), headlined “‘Venezuelans Are Starving for Information’: The Battle to Get News in a Country in Chaos,” distinguished itself as a veritable masterpiece of this literary fad.

The article’s slant should come as no surprise, given Time’s (and Nugent’s) enthusiastic endorsement (2/1/19) of the ongoing coup led by self-proclaimed “interim president” Juan Guaidó. Time’s report is based on a trope oft-repeated by corporate journalists for over a decade (Extra!, 11–12/06), namely that Venezuela’s elected Chavista government is an “authoritarian” regime that brutally suppresses freedom of expression. Corporate outlets frequently speak of “Chávez’s clampdown on press freedom” (New York Times, 4/30/19), “a country where critical newspapers and broadcast media already have been muzzled” and “much of Venezuela’s independent press has disappeared” (NBC, 2/3/19, 5/16/19), or the Maduro “regime” controlling “almost all the television and radio stations” (Bloomberg, 1/29/19).

However, the Time journalist’s nightmarish narrative of Orwellian state censorship flies in the face of basic empirical facts that are readily apparent to anyone who has spent any time in Venezuela…

Even aside from US-based networks like Fox and CNN, Venezuela’s private TV news spectrum is dominated by pro-opposition perspectives. The only exception is Globovisión, which a 2015 American University study found to have “no significant bias in favor of the government or the opposition”—contrary to claims by the New York Times (2/21/19) that the private network “changed its editorial line to support Mr. Maduro” following its ownership change.
-:====

I keep thinking of the saying “Be careful what you wish for.” Reactionary forces happy to see uncle Sam do regime change all over the planet in the name of democracy also want people to be aware that ‘dictators’ (in target countries resisting the global dictatorship of the United States) are stifling news and information and not allowing private news organizations to operate. I hope people are alarmed by that warning and look closely. Then they might notice that the opposite is the truth. I’ve been saying for some time (after watching rightwing media play an important role in aiding and abetting uncle Sam’s murderous regime change operations) that media is absolutely a matter of national security. Besieged national leaders ignore that fact at their, and their nation’s, peril. I don’t call for the banning of evil corporate media. But independent States need to take steps to ensure that they do NOT dominate the airwaves, for it is, indeed, a matter of national security.

“US Police BREAK INTO Venezuelan DC Embassy, Arrest Activists at Guaido’s Request” by ? (Sputnik)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

((++
Police have been sieging the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC despite resistance from activists supporting the diplomatic mission loyal to the country’s elected President Nicolas Maduro and accusations of violating the untouchable status of the embassy.

US police have broken into the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC and arrested four protesters from the Embassy Protection Collective at the request of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido’s representative in the US — Carlos Vecchio, the State Department said. The four anti-war activists who were arrested during the raid, Margaret Flowers, Adrienne Pine, David Paul and Kevin Zeese, were removed from the embassy soon after and taken away in a police car…

A US Secret Service spokesman confirmed that it had helped Department of State’s Diplomatic Security arrest the remaining Embassy Protection Collective protesters inside the Venezuelan Embassy…

Anti-war group CODEPINK’s activists reported that the lawyer for Embassy Protection Collective was seen entering the building escorted by the DC police. Medea Benjamin from CODEPINK cited Venezuela’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Ron as denouncing the US actions as a violation of the Vienna Conventions and slamming the arrest of Embassy Protection Collective members…

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro earlier slammed US attempts to seize the property of the country’s embassy, pointing to its “inviolability” under international treaties regulating the activities of diplomatic missions.

“Unlawful Arrests of Venezuelan DC Embassy Protectors Symbolic of US Decadence” by Stephen Lendman (American Herald Tribune)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

|[|[|
Activist embassy protectors were invited into Venezuela’s Washington diplomatic facility by its legitimate ruling authorities in Caracas.

According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the premises of embassies, consulates, and other diplomatic facilities are inviolable territory — no one permitted inside without head of mission permission.

The illegal seizure of Venezuela’s DC embassy and arrest of activist protectors were unprecedented acts of US diplomatic piracy.

The Bolivarian Republic’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Ron denounced what happened, calling the Trump regime’s action a flagrant international law violation, adding:

“We do not authorize any of the coup leaders to enter our embassy in Washington DC. We call on the US government to respect the Vienna Conventions and sign a Protecting Power Agreement with us that would ensure the integrity of both our embassy in Washington, DC and the US Embassy in Caracas.”

Activists David Paul, Margaret Flowers, Kevin Zeese, and Professor of Anthropology Adrienne Pine were unlawfully arrested and charged…

In Police State America, due process and equal justice under law don’t apply when US ruling authorities want their way enforced…

Manning was reimprisoned last week for again invoking her constitutional right to remain silent, refusing to give grand jury testimony, saying she “cannot be coerced,” stressing:

“The government cannot build a prison bad enough, cannot create a system worse than the idea that I would ever change my principles,” adding she’d “rather starve to death” than violate them.

In response to the arrest of Venezuelan embassy protectors, Pine said the following:

“As a scholar and educator, there are times when standard tools of teaching, publishing, and public speaking aren’t enough. There are times when we need to put our bodies on the line” for justice, adding:

“A successful coup in Venezuela would have even broader consequences than those I have witnessed in Honduras. It would lead to civil war, and would most likely quickly escalate to a global conflict.”

Pine is a Honduran expert. Under US installed fascist rule, she witnessed firsthand what she called “invisible genocide” in the country.

She called the Honduran “militarized capitalism/neoliberal fascis(t)” model devastating for the rights, welfare, and dignity of its long-suffering people.

A state of siege exists in the country. Human and civil rights violations are horrific. Killings, beatings, disappearances, intimidation, and torture are commonplace.

Human rights workers, trade unionists, independent journalists, environmental activists, and other regime opponents are targeted for elimination.

What’s happening in Honduras and other nations run by US installed despots is coming to Venezuela if the Trump regime’s coup plot succeeds.

“Chelsea Manning Sent Back to Jail for Refusing to Testify Against Wikileaks” by ? (Associated Press)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

|(O-
Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning was ordered back to jail Thursday for refusing to testify to a grand jury, even after telling a judge she’d rather “starve to death” than cooperate with prosecutors.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga ordered her to remain incarcerated at the Alexandria jail either until she agrees to testify or until the grand jury’s term expires in 18 months. He also imposed fines that will kick in at $500 a day after 30 days and $1,000 a day after 60 days…

Manning has offered multiple reasons for refusing to testify, but fundamentally says she considers the whole grand jury process to be unacceptable.

Trenga was unimpressed with her rationale and noted that grand juries are embedded in the Constitution.

He said he hopes that while incarcerated “Ms. Manning would reflect on the principles she says she’s embracing … and whether those views are worth the price she’s paying for them.”

Manning’s lawyers had argued that she should not be jailed because she has proven that she will refuse to testify no matter how long she’s jailed. Under federal law, a recalcitrant witness can be jailed for civil contempt only if there’s a reasonable possibility that the incarceration will coerce the witness into testifying.

Fascist U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga, representing the thoroughly lawless, violent American Empire, gets off preaching to someone principled about principles and the Constitution (which was designed by an elite group for the elite).
