“Trump Continues Obama’s War On Whistleblowers, Arrests Another Alleged Intercept Source” by Caitlin Johnstone (Caitlin

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

“New drone whistleblower at The Intercept,” tweeted the outspoken CIA whistleblower John Kiriakou in October 2015. “For God’s sake don’t let @MatthewACole learn his identity.”

Intercept investigative reporter Matthew Cole has been tied both to Kiriakou’s discovery and prosecution and to that of Reality Winner, who leaked classified documents to The Intercept in 2017. Kiriakou’s comment came after the first in a series of articles was published in The Intercept titled “The Drone Papers” by Jeremy Scahill on October 15, 2015. Today, the alleged source of this report has been arrested, the third alleged Intercept source to have been prosecuted by the Trump administration.

Former US Air Force language analyst Daniel Hale has been arrested and charged with violating the Espionage Act and other offenses related to leaking classified documents to the press. Court documents didn’t reveal the identity of the journalist who received the documents, but AP reports that “details in the indictment make clear that Jeremy Scahill, a founding editor of The Intercept, is the reporter who received the leaks.”

US military illegally in Syria

“The Western media “death cult” is dragging us into the abyss of perpetual war” by Jonathan Cook (21st Century Wire)

An excerpt from the above linked-article follows:

By any reckoning, the claim made this week by al-Qaeda-linked fighters that they were targeted with chemical weapons by the Syrian government in Idlib province – their final holdout in Syria – should have been treated by the western media with a high degree of scepticism.

That the US and other western governments enthusiastically picked up those claims should not have made them any more credible.

Scepticism was all the more warranted from the media given that no physical evidence has yet been produced to corroborate the jihadists’ claims. And the media should have been warier still given that the Syrian government was already poised to defeat these al-Qaeda groups without resort to chemical weapons – and without provoking the predictable ire (yet again) of the west.

But most of all scepticism was required because these latest claims arrive just as we have learnt that the last supposed major chemical attack – which took place in April 2018 and was, as ever, blamed by all western sources on Syria’s president, Bashar Assad – was very possibly staged, a false-flag operation by those very al-Qaeda groups now claiming the Syrian government has attacked them once again.

“Western Media Parrot Flawed Narrative on Fujairah “Sabotage”” by Alireza Hashemi (Geopolitics Alert)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Tehran (GPA) – The explosions on May 12th off the coast of Fujairah, one of the largest shipping hubs across the globe, has become a controversy shrouded in mystery that could serve the interests of warmongers around the globe.

With the details of the incident remaining obscure over a week later, it’s still unclear what happened and who was behind the explosions. Yet a close look at the coverage of the incident by western mainstream media indicates they assisted the UAE and Saudi governments to cover up the real magnitude of the incident, instead of doing rigorous and professional journalism. The corporate media is also working hand in hand with those governments to implicate Iran in the case, as part of their extensive anti-Iran propaganda campaign.

What Happened?

Some details of the incident first emerged on the morning of May 12th on the Beirut-based TV channel Al-Mayadeen, which quoted “Gulf sources” as saying explosions were heard at the port and seven ships anchored near the port had been damaged. The UAE officials, namely the Fujairah Media Office and the harbormaster of the Fujairah port, initially dismissed the reports and insisted it was business as usual at the port.

“Media Silent as So-called “Rebels” Reveal Progressive 2030 Yemen National Vision Strategy” by Randi Nord (Geopolitics Alert)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Sana’a (GPA) – Sana’a’s revolutionary government recently revealed a 2030 Yemen National Vision strategy to lift the country into the modern era. The National Vision will enact sweeping reforms to empower women, impoverished populations, marginalized groups, those with special needs, and people throughout all aspects of society.

Unsurprisingly, the Yemen National Vision release went completely unmentioned by mainstream media which chooses to write off Yemen’s National Salvation Government as violent, reactionary, and unreasonable “Iranian-backed rebels.”

The recently revealed Yemen National Vision strategy once again shows that Ansarullah is not a reactionary militia taking orders from Iran as the media claims but rather a grassroots political movement determined to unite and develop the country in the name of progress.

“US media silent on re-jailing of Chelsea Manning” by Genevieve Leigh (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

The response of the so-called “mainstream” media to the imprisonment of Manning for the third time is a conspiracy of silence. Not one of the five Sunday morning news programs even mentioned her name. Neither the New York Times nor the Washington Post ran anything over the weekend related to her most recent imprisonment last Thursday. The Guardian published one perfunctory 350-word report.

The silence of the US media on Chelsea Manning sheds light on the real agenda behind the Democratic Party-led campaign to censor the internet under the pretext of fighting Russian-inspired “fake news.” In the name of promoting “authoritative” and “responsible” media, i.e., corporate-controlled outlets that are integrated into the military-intelligence apparatus and “responsible” to the capitalist state, whose propaganda and lies they dutifully disseminate, all left-wing and progressive websites and publications that oppose imperialist war and the policies of the government are to be marginalized or silenced.

“Why is the Democratic Socialists of America silent on the persecution of Julian Assange?” by ? (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Last Thursday’s announcement by the US Justice Department of espionage charges against Julian Assange has made clear that the Trump administration’s persecution of the WikiLeaks founder is the spearhead of a drive to overturn the First Amendment’s guarantee of speech and press freedom and criminalize genuine journalism.

So brazen is this attack on democratic rights that even newspapers that have supported internet censorship, defended US war crimes, engaged in character assassination against Assange and supported his indictment on hacking charges felt compelled to warn about the dangerous precedent being set by the use of the Espionage Act to prosecute a media outlet for publishing government secrets. These include the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal, all of which published editorials protesting against the latest charges against Assange.

Yet the Democratic Socialists of America has said nothing. The DSA National Political Committee has issued no statement. The organization’s official publication Left Weekly as well as its affiliated publication Jacobin, along with Jacobin’s publisher Bashkar Sunkara, have remained totally silent about Assange’s indictment under the Espionage Act. They have not so much as tweeted a story reporting the indictment.

“Australian government, Labor opposition silent on espionage charges against Assange” by Oscar Grenfell (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Last Thursday the Trump administration unveiled 17 additional charges against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, carrying a maximum prison sentence of 170 years. Since then, not a single representative of the newly elected Australian Coalition government or the Labor Party opposition has condemned the stepped-up persecution of the Australian citizen and journalist.

By their silence, the Liberal-National government and Labor are signalling their support for the US-led persecution of Assange, over his role in the exposure of US war crimes, mass surveillance and diplomatic conspiracies around the world.

The political establishment is making clear that nothing will be done to prevent Assange’s extradition from Britain to the US, where he would face a show-trial that would establish a precedent for the suppression of freedom of the press and free speech…

The refusal of successive governments to take similar action in defence of Assange is inextricably tied to their support for the US alliance and for Australia’s participation in the predatory wars of American imperialism around the world.

At the same time, the Australian political establishment, no less than its counterparts abroad, is fearful of mounting anti-war sentiment and social opposition. It is responding with police-state measures, including a crackdown on whistleblowers, and a turn to authoritarianism.
