“Canada Joins the Authoritarian Censorship Agenda” by Kurt Nimmo (Kurt Nimmo via via Axis of Logic)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Here’s how the Canadians will deal with citizen journalism and narrative debunking—they’ll force the taxpayers to subsidize corporate news rackets.

“Federal agencies will publish an A-list of newspapers and websites deemed reliable under a multi-million dollar subsidy program, the Department of Finance yesterday told the Senate national finance committee,” reports an Ottawa website, Blacklock’s Reporter.

Bill C-97 the Budget Implementation Act proposes a 15 percent tax credit to a maximum $75 for subscribers of websites operated by a “qualified Canadian journalism organization”. Criteria are not known. The tax credit is projected to cost $11 million in 2020. It expires in 2024.

The bill also amends the Income Tax Act to offer lucrative payroll subsidies for news organizations “primarily engaged in the production of original written news content”. A total $360 million would be paid over four years through a 25 percent payroll tax credit for publishers, the equivalent of a maximum $13,750 per newsroom employee, retroactive to January 1, 2019.

Not only will Canadians be forced at gunpoint to pay the salaries of official government script readers described as journalists, but the government is now in the process of making sure the average citizen will be prevented from viewing “misinformation” on social media.

My online response to the above linked-to article follows:

Regarding the Christchurch Call:

“Respect for freedom of expression is fundamental. However, no one has the right to create and share terrorist and violent extremist content online.”

In the meantime, 21st Century Wire reports:

“GAMER GASLIGHT: ‘Call of Duty’ Reboot Features ‘Bad Russians’, White Helmet ‘Heroes’”…

From the 21st Century Wire article: “Critics of the new game point to Hollywood and the Pentagon’s ‘entertainment consultants’ collaborating on the reboot of a popular video game designed to condition next generation gamers for more war, destruction and imperialism.”

Counterrevolution – counter revolution – is very on, and has been forever. Counterrevoution, for those of you who don’t know, simply means pro active and reactive efforts by the war-making State to keep the people in their place. Society has been molded by those with power to be what those with power want it to be. One of the things that those with power want society to be is free of influences that might undermine their wishes, their plans and their institutions and systems. Who are those with power? In this dark world, they are those who have self-modified into being believers in inequality, deceit and violence, which we are all free to do but not without consequences. They are people who lack faith (by choice) and view themselves as being God, namely someone who can make whatever rules he wants and even break them if he wants. The thing is, the belief (which isn’t necessarily ‘full’) in inequality, deceit and violence – known as neoconservatism – conveniently helps those who want to maintain the system of oppression and exploitation known as capitalism. Capitalist expansion (getting harder and harder) is accompanied by repression and terror, precisely because it involves the stealing of people’s resources, which they naturally resist (making ‘them’ out to be the terrorists in the ruined eyes of neoconservatives).

The capitalists and their (emphasis on ‘their’) war-making State have to both deal with resistance when it happens and before. Counterrevolution, ongoing, deals mainly with the ‘before’. It includes propaganda, co-optation, consumerism, bread and circuses (circuses: mindless entertainment, including the violence of video games for kids, even while the censorious State and it’s tech allies sometimes claim violent language and imagery as a reason for their censorship online) and fashionable consumption (where the society is relative prosperous).

The ‘after’ of the resistance to people whose countries are being regime-changed and whose property (before and after regime change) is being stolen from them is counterinsurgency, which is State terrorism. If you don’t just stand aside and let the war-making State and allied rampaging capitalists take your homes from you, then the rampaging capitalists, with the backing of the war-making State, at home and abroad, will resist your resistance – with extreme prejudice. The war-making State may call its terrorist activities anything it wants, and so it calls it Critical Infrastructure Protection or national security or, indeed counterinsurgency, which it would explain as being something right. The intensity of counterinsurgency operations depends partly on the location and partly on its effectiveness. If citizens whose lives are being upended by powerful, capitalist special interests are willing to scurry away and never be heard from again, there will be no need (presumably) for the capitalist marauders to see them murdered. State terror is not absent from countries like Canada, but it’s still there. Look at the proposed Bill C-97! But look in places (overseas) where, for example, Canadian mining companies operate and you will see a much more intense, deadly form of counterinsurgency as inhabitants of the land resist rapacious, lawless mining companies’ incursions, usually on their own because their governments are fascist and in league with powerful capitalist special interests – like Canadian mining companies.

And now that war-making States have to contend with the freedom to communicate online, that counterrevolution is very much online. (The privacy browser Tor is part of that counterrevolutionary push!) The people’s voice got too much for the war-making State and it’s corporate overlords, including Google, to handle, for which reason the Corporatocracy State in the person of Google kicked censorship into high gear, creating its First Draft organization in order to deal with what it labels ‘fake news’. It’s snowballed since then. Governments (official ones) and their tech partners have all jumped on the ‘fake news’ bandwagon. They use every trick in the book to shut down free communication by and among citizens, because the more that they can keep a lid on real news, including real news that exposes their criminality, the easier a time they will have enjoying the kind of world that they have fashioned – via lies and violence.

  1. Eric Blair says:

The west is fast becoming the hellish dystopia that the Orwells and Huxleys of the 20th century dramatized and foreshadowed in their fiction. September 11th, 2001 marked the unofficial beginning of the world’s first globalized surveillance society and also the date marking the debut of the creeping police state that has been steadily taking over the ‘5 Eyes’ states (US, UK, CA, AU, NZ) ever since. With every citizen’s internet history hoovered up and archived by the NSA/GCHQ, retroactively stitching up people who become a nuisance to the state, by revealing inconvenient truths or resisting the cognitive straight jacket every person is being forced into, becomes easy. Slap them with a ‘threat to national security’ label and they effectively have no rights whatsoever and can be disappeared into a super max memory hole never to be seen or heard from again.

The Canadian government’s actions as outlined in the piece are especially concerning because, unlike in the US or UK, there is no established tradition in Canada of small but vocal alternative media publications that challenge the dominant establishment narratives. The Canadian media (legacy, TV and digital) is controlled by only 3 or 4 private corporations and the CBC state media, er, “public broadcasting”, corporation and these outfits already more or less march in lockstep. In no other nation on earth is the media this concentrated. The Canadian government choking an already narrow and claustrophobic information spectrum by forcing Canadians to subsidize domestic propaganda production is an appalling development but also not surprising in a world in which “radical” and “extremist” content increasingly means any fact or opinion that challenges or contradicts the establishment narrative.

Fighting back against a tyranny cloaked in the empty trappings of democracy in a society of pacified and submissive zombies where every internet connected gadget can be, and is, used to spy, track and surveil the citizenry is a daunting and unprecedented challenge.
