Lawlessness / Ruined – part 51

“Another Round of Punishing Economic Austerity in Ontario” by Greg Albo, Bryan Evans and Carlo Fanelli (Global Research)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

The eminent conservative scholar of public budgeting Aaron Wildavsky characterized annual budgets as a record of “victories, defeats, bargains, and compromises.” The province of Ontario’s 2019 Budget, the first of the new Conservative government of Doug Ford, does indeed tell us something of this – additional fiscal supports for business, erosion of social expenditures in general, and for the most vulnerable in particular, large expenditures on public programs needed now spread far into the future, and generous symbolic gestures for this and that political constituency…

But budgetary policies also reveal deeper structural features such as the regional setting of the world market, the administrative form and policy regime of the state, and social struggles over justice and democracy. Such a shift in focus immediately registers a line of continuity extending back from the Ford government to the 1995-2003 Common Sense Revolution of the Conservative government of Mike Harris and Ernie Eves. Their market-expanding and labour-disciplining agenda established Ontario as a low-tax, low-cost regional production zone of North America dominated by an increasingly powerful financial class and a state committed to extensive growth at whatever the costs to Ontario’s ecology, First Nations, and workers. Neoliberalism, with its core tenets of a constitutionally constrained and coercive state buttressing of a ‘free market’, guided budgetary policy and all else. Despite the shift to a more ‘inclusionary’ political discourse, the Liberal governments of Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne, from 2003-18, never departed from this fiscal legacy and consolidated, for the most part, a variation of the same policy regime and development strategy.

There is no single neoliberal budgetary framework that has guided every single state, other than an underlying faith in ‘expansionary austerity’ – fiscal restraint to encourage business investment…

…while the words “alcohol” and “beer” appear 46 times in the budget, the crisis of housing affordability does not merit a mention…

…Development at whatever the ecological and social costs is what is meant by the Conservatives’ tired slogan of Ontario being ‘open for business’.

“Six immigrant children dead in US custody since September” by Eric London (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

This drastic increase in deaths serves as a warning: extreme right-wing forces in the White House, led by Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller, are orienting increasingly toward the official use of lethal violence against immigrants. But this cabal of fascists is on a collision course with the vast majority of the American people who view the deaths of immigrant children as a disgrace and an indelible mark of national shame.

The other five children who have died were Guatemalan and grew up in the devastating aftermath of the US-instigated Civil War that ravaged the country from 1960 to 1966. In the early 1980s, Guatemalan dictator Efraín Ríos Montt directed a genocidal campaign to murder peasants and workers with the support of the CIA and US military. Montt received military training in the US. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan called him “a man of great personal integrity and commitment.”

Each child’s short life story testifies to the devastation wrought by the capitalist system and US imperialism on the working class and poor farmers of Central America.

Julian Assange

““Truth ultimately is all we have:” Julian Assange appeals for public support” by Oscar Grenfell (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

==== == =
In his first publicly-released comments to supporters since his arrest, WikiLeaks founder and publisher Julian Assange has detailed the repressive conditions he faces in Britain’s Belmarsh prison and called for a campaign against his threatened extradition to the United States.

“I am defenceless and am counting on you and others of good character to save my life,” Assange wrote, adding, “Truth ultimately is all we have.”
= == ====

That’s an interesting statement for Julian to make. I’d have to ask him what he meant exactly by it. When evil people attack innocent, or good, people, How should they respond? Generally, They can respond with behavior that imitates their attackers (who employ terrorism, deceit, and dishonesty) or they can respond as principled people. For now, Evil people are allowed to be pretty evil. They must be allowed to behave the way they want so that they can be free to believe the way that they want, so that their judgment will be sure. Adam and Eve wrongly came to want to know what independence from the Creator was like. And we are all paying for that wrong choice. The God of light did not lyingly cover up that transgression, involving an angel who up and decided that he wanted to have worship for himself (from Adam and Eve), like God. Their rebellion raised important Issues, summed up as the Issue of Universal Sovereignty. Is God’s rule of love good? Or is there an equal, or better, alternative, like ‘riches for the strongest’?

Do people who reject the truth then know it? The truth isn’t just that the wild beast of Corporatocracy wants our worship or else. Jehovah will decide how great our error is when he considers our actions and hearts as he completely destroys this sick system of things. We are all in error and will all be corrected therefore. The trick is to not be in so much error that we can’t survive it. Julian doesn’t look evil to me (just mistaken about some things), but his attackers look like people who have crossed the line, fatally. They are the same monsters who call out to God, regularly, to “Bring it!” That’s their pathology. That’s the grave that they’ve dug for themselves and would have others join them in. They are ruined.

“UK: Police Arrest 4 Teens for Brutal Gay Bashing of 2 Women” by ? (teleSUR)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Police arrested four teenage suspects Friday in an attack on a lesbian couple who were violently attacked on a London bus on May 30 after refusing their perpetrator’s request to engage in intimate acts.

During interviews with the media in England, where the couple lives, and Uruguay, where Geymonat is from, the doctor said she and Chris were traveling that night on the top deck of a two-decker London bus when a group of young men started harassing them once they discovered them to be gay…

“They surrounded us and started saying really aggressive stuff, things about sexual positions, lesbians and claiming we could kiss so they could watch us,” Dr. Geymonat told the BBC and Montevideo Portal Friday.

“To ease the situation I tried to make some jokes. … and (Chris) even acted as if she was sick… but they started throwing coins. The next thing I know Chris is in the middle of the bus and they are punching her,” recalls Geymonat. The event took place May 30.

“I immediately went there by impulse and tried to pull her out of there and they started punching me. I was really bleeding,” says the doctor who took pictures of herself and her partner on the bus just after they were beaten by the males, showing their bloody noses and jaws.

“The police are extremely good…” said one of the victims. Really? They have no choice but to deal with such actions, although they don’t always even do their basic jobs. Remember the police, including the special agents (of some org or another), who watched fascists break the law in connection with activists’ attempts to protect the Ecuadorian embassy in Washington DC? (See “The US-led Coup in Venezuela comes to Washington” by Margaret Flowers and Kevin Zeese) Yes, That’s the US and not London. In London, the police have happily participated in the lawless, fascist, utterly evil persecution of Julian Assange, going so far as to raid the Ecuadorian embassy in order to remove Assange, which is what the fascist American government wanted. It had zero to do with the war-making State’s search for justice. Indeed, The war-making State, UK or US, doesn’t search (at least meaningfully) for justice. You can’t attack the people (for the reason that they have opinions and an interest in knowing about what their governments are doing in their name and with their tax dollars), and light and God himself, and claim to care about justice.

Acting AFP commissioner Neil Gaughan [source: Australian Broadcasting Corporation]

“Australian police chief links media raids to US-led “Five Eyes” spy network” by Mike Head (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Citing government demands for investigations into leaks of secret information, Gaughan said the AFP received “numerous referrals to us [of leaks] and to be honest we get too many. But the premise of investigating these matters is to ensure the international community knows that we take the leaking of information, sensitive information, seriously.”

In other words, the AFP is under pressure not just from Canberra, but from Washington, to ensure that information, including about criminal actions of governments and its agencies, is kept from public view. This takes place amid the Trump administration’s mounting threats of war against Iran and Venezuela, as well as its escalating confrontation with China.

The AFP search warrants related to leaked documents exposing war crimes perpetrated by the Special Air Service (SAS) in Afghanistan and plans to legalise domestic mass surveillance by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), which are both central to Five Eyes operations.

Gaughan’s remarkable declaration went virtually unreported throughout the establishment media in Australia and internationally…

Gaughan’s statement also underscores the warnings made by the WSWS that the persecution of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for exposing the war crimes, mass spying and regime-change operations of Washington and its allies, including Australia, is setting a precedent for the criminalisation of journalism.

By specifically targeting journalists, as well as whistleblowers, the Australian government is following the lead of the Trump administration. The US has charged Assange, a journalist and publisher, with multiple counts under the Espionage Act, for which he faces life imprisonment…

But, asked what was the harm of revealing wrongdoing by Australian troops or plans to extend spying laws, Gaughan said the substance of the reports was “irrelevant.” The mere disclosure of protected information was a crime. He bluntly stated: “The issue of whether or not the public has the right to know is really not an issue that comes into our investigation process.”

If Australians were wondering how fascist their country is today, this should tell them something. It’s perfectly fascist. Then again, You can’t be, willingly, part of the fascist US-led Corporatocracy and not be fascist.

“Russian Multi-World Polarity v. Trump’s MAGA” by Stephen Lendman (Stephen Lendman)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

MAGA is all about dominating other nations by brute force or other means, controlling their resources, and exploiting their populations.

It features endless wars of aggression against sovereign independent nations, aiming to forcefully transform them into US client states.

It’s about expanding NATO into a US-controlled global military. It aims to create ruler-serf societies worldwide, the middle class eliminated everywhere.

It’s about a world unsafe and unfit to live in, totalitarianism over democratic rule, free and open societies replaced by police state control…

The nation I grew up in no longer exists. Opportunities I had aren’t available to young people today, a nation serving its privileged class exclusively.

Hostile US hegemonic policies transformed planet earth into a perpetual battleground at home and abroad.

Inside the bubble is paradise for investors and high-net worth households. Outside is dystopian hell paved with ill-intensions.

Lendman also writes “Putin has other ideas based on world peace and stability, not endless wars for dominance, mutual cooperation among nations, and multi-world polarity.” Perhaps. But I don’t think that we should look at Putin and Xi Jinping as being better than Trump and all the fascists who willingly go along with his evil, let alone as saviors. Putin’s pushing nuclear and dangerous, pro machine, anti people 5G onto his fellow Russians. Xi Jinping has foisted the anti-democratic, terrifying social credit system on his fellow Chinese citizens. Neither of those ‘saviors’ cares a wit about Jehovah and his plan of salvation for imperfect, but loyal, humankind. And I doubt if those leaders do not have innocent blood on their hands. The Left may be right about American imperialism, but that doesn’t mean that capitalism is clean when it’s done by those who are targets of the US-led Corporatocracy. Does anyone suppose, for example, that there aren’t people who have been harmed by mega projects of China or Putin’s pipeline projects? Where’s the investigations, by leftwingers, into that?

“US-backed Saudi regime tortures dissidents on eve of threatened beheadings” by Bill Van Auken (WSWS)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

Saudi Arabia’s US-backed monarchical dictatorship has savagely tortured political prisoners facing imminent execution by means of public beheading, according to reports by human rights organizations.

The Saudi human rights organization Al Qst told Al Jazeera that “prisoners are being tortured during interrogations” at the country’s maximum-security prisons. The founder of Al Qst, Yahya Assiri, said the methods of torture routinely used against political prisoners include “electrocution, waterboarding and suspending victims from the ceiling by their hands.”

Amnesty International has reported that women’s rights activists have also been targets of “brutal” physical and psychological torture, including sexual abuse by masked men. Victims of these torture sessions, the human rights group said, “were unable to walk or stand properly, had uncontrolled shaking of the hands and marks on the body. One of the activists reportedly attempted to take her own life repeatedly inside the prison.”

Among those subjected to this horrific abuse and reportedly slated for execution in the immediate aftermath of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended this week, are three men described as “moderate” Muslim scholars—Sheikh Salman al-Odah, Awad al-Qarni and Ali al-Omari—who fell afoul of the regime headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler and Washington’s closest ally in the Arab world…

All three are facing the death sentence on the basis of trumped-up “terrorism” charges in the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh. Two Saudi government sources and a relative confirmed to the online publication Middle East Eye (MEE) that the government planned to execute the three men soon after Ramadan.

One of these sources also told MEE that the killing spree carried out in April, in which 37 men were decapitated with swords in a single day, most of them Shias charged in connection with the mass protests that swept Saudi Arabia’s predominantly Shiite Eastern Province beginning in 2011, constituted a “trial balloon.”

The House of Saud, according to the report, carried out the mass executions—which included the crucifixion of one of the headless corpses—to test international reaction before putting to death its more publicly prominent political prisoners.

“For Fourth Year Saudi Barrages Bring Death and Loss to Yemeni Families on Eid” by Ahmed Abdulkareem (Mint Press News)

An excerpt from the above linked-to article follows:

HODEIDA, YEMEN — “This is our Eid gift from Saudi Arabia,” a visitor to a private hospital in Hodeida told MintPress as he pulled back a blood-soaked blue plastic cover draping the lifeless body of his child. The girl, whose torso and arms were dotted with holes from high-caliber bullets, did not make it to her second birthday — she was killed in a barrage of gunfire let loose by Saudi Coalition gunmen as they peppered residential neighborhoods on Al-Shuhada Street in the al Hali directorate of Hodeida. An elderly woman and a man were also killed in the attack, which severely injured at least three other residents…

For the fourth consecutive year, Eid al-Fitr has done little to bring quiet to Yemen’s war-weary residents. In Hodeida, airstrikes have been replaced with a new norm: snipers, artillery shells, and missiles. Despite a Houthi withdrawal from three key ports in the province under a U.N.-sponsored cease-fire deal, the Saudi-led Coalition continues to hammer the strategic port city, leaving its residents increasingly pessimistic about internationally backed efforts to end the four-year war.

As I commented (with great difficulty thanks to Disqus) on the Mint Press News website, This is perfectly normal. This how those with power get and keep it. They break rules. They strategically break written and unwritten rules, laws and agreements. We the people can’t defeat such darkness. That will take a higher ‘righteous’ power (who I believe is Jehovah God). Bravado won’t do it either.
